Nerf – Club Rules

Behold, one and all, the club rules for the Strake Jesuit Nerf Club (SJNC) for the 2015-2016 Academic Year!

  • Mission Statement – Why we exist! The SJNC exists to allow members a place to express love for all things which shoot foam! We meet to discuss our collections and new blasters; to modify, paint, and improve our collections; to socialize with our shared interest; and to hold events such as Nerf Wars, Humans vs. Zombies (HVZ), Assassin, and other games/gathers with either club members or the Strake Jesuit community at large!
  • Club Leadership – In the 2016-2017 academic year, the SJNC leadership was chosen by the forming group to ensure the establishment of student-organized activity. In subsequent years, the club President, Vice-President, and Parliamentarian shall be elected by the club for one-year terms at the first meeting of the fall semester. The Faculty Moderator is chosen by the school administration and serves to assist the student club leadership in their duties, but not to do those duties for them.
    1. Club President – The President is responsible for calling club meetings, setting the agenda of all meetings, deciding what schedule shall be followed for club-sponsored activities, and assisting in advertising the club to the larger student body. The President shall work with the faculty moderator to ensure all school obligations are met, and shall ensure that no members violate any school-set club requirements.
    2. Club Vice-President – If the President is not able to attend a club meeting, the Vice-President shall carry out his/her functions to ensure the meeting is conducted according to its needs. If the President is forced to resign or is not able to exercise his/her duties permanently, the Vice-President shall become the new club President. At other times, the Vice-President shall serve to assist the President in the exercise of his duties.
    3. Club Parliamentarian – The Parliamentarian is responsible for keeping attendance records, maintaining records of funds, disseminating communication to the student body, and other record-keeping duties as they arise. If both the President and Vice-President are not at a club meeting, the Parliamentarian shall carry out their functions at a given meeting.
    4. Faculty Moderator – The faculty moderator is responsible for coordinating the club’s relationship with the administration and school at-large. The faculty moderator sets the location of club meetings, sends announcements to SJET or the school website, and has the power to veto any club action which would violate school policies or school club rules. No meeting or club function can take place if the faculty moderator is not present, on or off campus.
  • Membership – Membership in the SJNC is open to all students at Strake Jesuit of all grade levels, unless the school administration forbids it in individual cases due to disciplinary reasons. After January 15, 2016, membership is open to all students at St. Agnes under the same terms at SJ students, pursuant to SAA rules.
    • Academic Ineligibility – Pursuant to Strake Jesuit Community Life, any SJ or SAA student who becomes academically ineligible may not participate in any extracurricular activities sponsored by the school until he or she becomes eligible. A member may continue to attend regularly scheduled meetings, but may not participate in any other club functions, including but not limited to battles, HVZ, Assassin, or other events.
  • Meetings and Attendance
    • Regular Meetings – The SJNC meets at least once per month during the first half of the Wednesday Activity Period or during lunch on pre-announced days. The Club President, Vice-President, and Parliamentarian are expected to attend every meeting unless pre-approved by the faculty moderator; all other members should attend every meeting they are able to, excepting other obligations.
    • Events – Club sponsored events shall be determined and announced as they arise. The club leadership shall set whatever terms they think are best for events.
      • School-Wide Events – In the event the SJNC holds events open to non-members or at locations that are generally campus-wide, all rules and requirements must be approved by the faculty moderator and the school administrationAbsolutely NO school-wide events may be held at any time without explicit pre-approval!
  • Blasters on Campus – The presence of Nerf blasters on the SJ campus is at the gracious allowance of the school’s administration; they’ve placed a great deal of trust and faith in us by allowing us to do activities which, if done irresponsibly, can seriously disrupt the primary mission of the school to provide an academic environment. To that end, the following rules are in place at all times for possessing blasters on campus:
    • Blasters must never be visible at any time, except for meetings/events. If you’re on campus and not actually at a meeting or event, you must keep all blasters covered – this means in a backpack, bag, locker, car, or other non-visible container. If anyone else can see it, it’s a PH, and possible sanctions from the club, including expulsion.
    • No shooting blasters on campus, except for meetings/events. Self-explanatory: if you’re on campus, don’t shoot unless you’re at a club meeting or event!
    • No engaging non-members or faculty. NEVER EVER EVER shoot, menace, irritate, bother, or otherwise use any blaster or club items to engage with or disrupt another person who isn’t a member of the SJNC. We obviously love all things Nerf, but the fastest way to have the club shut down is to disturb or harass anyone who isn’t involved in the club.
    • Storage of blasters. If you have a blaster on campus and you’re not at or going directly to or from a meeting or event, you should store it either in your locker, car, or with the faculty moderator. We should have some secure storage on campus for the club available at all times, but the main point of the rule is that you shouldn’t be toting blasters to class and potentially disrupting classes, sports, and other campus activities.
